I have been battling cancer for almost twenty years. It is a tough disease, but I am a tough German gal, living much of my adult life in America. When I found out that my friend and coach, Bill Penzer had written a really good book about Cancerville, it stimulated the artist in me. He is so right that it is a place as well as a diagnosis. I lived within the walls of its city for quite a while, but I have managed to function and have some fun as well. Above is a glass sculpture of my vision of Cancerville that I recently made. I hope it is as meaningful for you as it is for me. Each house symbolizes a different part of this not so nice place. In its entirety, it symbolizes our journey through there and becoming a survivor.

Toward that goal I wish you well. You just need to be strong and positive and when it gets you down you need to be stronger and more positive.

Sincerely,
Antje Farber

My friend gave me a copy of your book in its draft typed format. I was skeptical about reading it as I felt I was as able to cope as well as anyone else. I have had my fill of self-help books over the years. However, I read the intro and you literally and figuratively pulled me in quickly. To my surprise I did reach for your hand and felt its tight grasp. Reading your book felt like we were sitting next to each other having a chat.

My journey in Cancerville is just beginning, but you have helped me to make a pretty swift attitude adjustment. My wife who is just a little older than your daughter was is dealing with the same thing. I’ve been pretty miserable and down in the dumps. We have 3 kids ages 4-12. I am following your encouragements and have underlined places that I need to reread. Not giving this back to my friend until I can get a printed copy. You helped me a lot and I thank you for that. There is no doubt in my mind that you hit a home run.

Sincerely,
Richard J.
